Right the ship: With deadline looming Knicks look to get back to winning ways

Another week of Knicks basketball is upon us. After treating the Nets like the junior varsity, the Bockers went on the road and survived a fourth quarter scare from Philly to secure a second straight victory. Amongst all the drama of the 2-8 start to January, it was really nice to win a couple of ball games. Winning usually solves everything. But it would be nice to see some of the recent defensive tenacity more consistently. I cannot say I am thrilled to see what a little adversity did to this team. I really do not care who hugs Draymond Green! Every year that gets more press than it needs to. And here I am talking about it. Anyway, I remain hopeful they can right the ship in a watered-down eastern conference. But even the most optimistic fan can sense the tension and frustration in Knicks land. Some of that might have to do with the uncertainty of players future with the basketball team. Yes, the trade deadline is the elephant in the room. Talks have gotten very loud about specific individuals. And not just Guerschon Yabusele, who has the same chance of playing for this team as you and I do post February 5th. Yabu my brother, once a tweet is posted everyone can see it. Even if you delete it. I do wish you well because you seem like a genuinely nice person. But this experiment has failed. And its ok for everyone to come to terms with that. So what can we expect the front office to do? Well one thing we have learned about Leon Rose is he isn’t afraid to pull the trigger. In the last couple of seasons alone, the Knicks have made more changes to their roster than anyone has expected, and it should not surprise the fan base if he decides to do it again. Originally the general consensus was to make some minor tweaks and keep the core intact. And that could very well still be the plan. But from everything that you hear from credible sources, with each passing day the reality of a shake up seems like a real possibility. And I am not just talking about the dude with 9 twitter followers that stays up until 3 am every night on the trade machine. The most respected names in the basketball media world are reporting on it. I will say this, I really do look forward to post deadline hoops. When we know exactly who our soldiers will be for springtime war. When a team is going through a funk with high high expectations, it isn’t easy. And a looming trade deadline on top of that adds fuel to the fire. You remember that these dudes are human at the end of the day. And just like us, I am sure they look forward to the conversation being dominated but whats happening on the court. Not job security.
